Government to provide identity cards, health insurance to gig workers

Delhi, February 1: On 1st February 2025, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the government will provide identity cards and health insurance to gig workers. This initiative aims to benefit one crore gig workers across the country. The identity cards will be issued through the e-Shram portal, and health insurance will be provided under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. The Finance Minister acknowledged the significant contribution of gig workers to the new-age economy.
