Google, in collaboration with SERI, hosted an event on March 16 to mark progress under the Mobile Repair Accelerator Program. The initiative was launched through an MoU with the Telangana government.

Officials said the Google mobile repair program aims to train 100 candidates as junior mobile repair technicians. The training combines classroom sessions with hands-on practical experience.

The programme has trained three batches so far. Out of 28 candidates from the first two batches, 71% secured placements. Three candidates also started their own repair centres.

Graduates can work as technicians in service centres or as staff in retail outlets. They can also take up roles in after-sales support or start independent repair businesses.

The curriculum covers diagnostics, component replacement and troubleshooting. It also includes training in data erasure and sustainable electronics practices.

The programme runs with partners such as the Telecom Sector Skill Council, BRITCO and BRIDCO. Stellar provides specialised software training.

Industry representatives said the initiative supports the Right-to-Repair movement. They added that it strengthens the electronics repair ecosystem and improves employability.

The event also showcased success stories of trained candidates. Participants took part in a live repair competition to demonstrate their skills.
