Golconda Police conduct cyber crime awareness drive at Masab Tank

Hyderabad: Golconda Zone Police conducted a cyber crime awareness programme on February 28 at Mahaveer Hospital, Masab Tank, under the “Jaagrut Hyderabad – Surakshit Hyderabad” initiative. The drive aimed to curb rising online frauds across the city.

The session began at 3 pm, and hospital staff as well as local residents attended. V Aravind Babu, DCP, Cybercrime Unit, Hyderabad City, participated along with other police officials.

During the session, officers explained emerging cyber fraud methods. These included online financial scams, phishing attacks, fake social media profiles, OTP fraud and impersonation schemes. They also described how fraudsters exploit digital platforms to target unsuspecting users.

Cyber crime awareness programme stresses preventive steps

Police advised citizens to avoid downloading unknown APK files or remote access applications. In addition, they warned people never to share bank details, PINs, OTPs, passwords or personal identification information.

Officials further asked participants to verify job offers, loan schemes and advertisements before responding. Moreover, they urged citizens to rely only on official websites and helplines for customer support.

Police cautioned against allowing others to use personal bank accounts for transactions, as mule accounts often serve as tools for cyber crime networks. They also advised people not to trust investment offers circulated through Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram or unfamiliar websites.

Finally, the cyber crime awareness programme stressed immediate reporting of fraud. Accordingly, officials directed victims to dial the national helpline 1930 or file complaints at cybercrime.gov.in without delay.
