Hyderabad: Heavy rains in Maharashtra have triggered a sharp rise in water levels of the Godavari River at Kaleshwaram, with the flow brushing against key ghats in the region.
At present, the river is flowing at 8.700 metres near Kaleshwaram, touching both Saraswati Ghat and the main Pushkar ghats. Inflows into the Medigadda barrage have reached 4.87 cusecs, pushing water levels to 9.80 metres.
To manage the surge, officials at the Annaram barrage have lifted six gates to release water downstream. The current water level at Medigadda stands at 5.91 metres.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as upstream rainfall continues to feed the Godavari system.
