Hyderabad: Rescue teams on Tuesday recovered three bodies from the Godavari river near Mummidivaram in Andhra Pradesh’s Konaseema district, a day after eight young men drowned while bathing after attending a wedding.
The incident occurred on Monday evening. Police and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams launched a search operation immediately after the alarm was raised. While three victims have been found, efforts continue to trace the remaining five.
According to officials, the group of 11 friends had entered the river for a swim following a wedding ceremony. Tragically, eight of them were pulled into deeper waters and went missing. The group had come in from Kakinada, Ramachandrapuram, and Mandapeta to take part in the festivities.
Those confirmed missing or dead include several young men—Kranthi, Paul, Sai, Mahesh, Satish, Rajesh, and Rohit.
The tragedy has left the entire region in mourning, as rescue teams continue their search for those who haven’t yet been found.
