Hyderabad: Gig Workers Bill introduction moved a step closer as Labour and Employment Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy announced that the State Government would place a comprehensive law before the Assembly after Cabinet approval.

The Minister made the statement in the Assembly on Monday while responding to a question raised by Mahabubnagar MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy on issues affecting gig workers.

He said the Gig Workers Bill introduction would follow discussions in the Cabinet meeting scheduled for the day. After approval, the government would table the Bill in the Assembly.

MLAs Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, Birla Ilaiah and others raised additional concerns and offered suggestions during the discussion.

Bill introduction to ensure welfare safeguards

Vivek Venkatswamy said the Gig Workers Bill introduction aims to create a legal framework to protect the welfare and rights of gig workers across the state.

He stated that the proposed law would address key concerns related to job security, fair treatment and social protection. The government plans to bring gig workers under a structured policy system through this legislation.

Gig Workers Bill introduction includes dedicated board plan

The Minister said the Gig Workers Bill introduction would lead to the formation of a dedicated board after the Assembly passes the legislation.

He added that the board would handle grievance redressal and ensure fairness in employment practices. It would also oversee social security measures for gig workers.

Further, the board would work to protect worker rights and improve accountability within the gig economy framework.
