GHMC seals Jayalalithaa’s Hyderabad house over tax dues

Hyderabad: GHMC officials sealed former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s residence in the city over pending property tax dues.

Revenue officials carried out the action at the house located in Srinagar Colony after dues remained unpaid for a prolonged period. They locked the main gate and affixed a notice on the premises.

Officials said they had issued prior notices seeking payment of outstanding property tax. However, they proceeded with enforcement after receiving no response.

GHMC acts on tax dues at Jayalalithaa residence

The residence holds historical significance as Jayalalithaa frequently stayed there during her film career and political life. It remained one of her preferred homes in Hyderabad.

Locals said the property faced neglect after her death due to inheritance-related issues. As a result, tax dues accumulated over time.

Meanwhile, GHMC intensified action against properties with large pending dues across the city. Officials said they were enforcing rules uniformly without exceptions.

They added that the end of the financial year prompted stricter recovery measures.
