Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan paid homage to Telangana armed struggle martyr Doddi Komurayya on his death anniversary at the GHMC head office on Friday. A floral tribute was offered to his portrait in a ceremony attended by senior civic officials.
Speaking at the event, Karnan described Komurayya as the first person to lay down his life in the Telangana armed rebellion against feudal oppression and exploitation. “He fought against bonded labour and injustice and became the first martyr of the Telangana peasant uprising,” Karnan said.
Additional Commissioners Anurag Jayanti, Raghu Prasad, Geeta Radhika, Venu Gopal, Chief Engineer Ratnakar, and Accounts Examiner Venkateshwar Reddy were also present at the commemorative event.
The Telangana armed struggle, remembered for its fierce resistance against the Nizam’s rule and landlords, holds historical significance in the state’s political memory. GHMC officials said the tribute was a mark of respect for sacrifices made in the fight for justice and rights.
