GHMC main roads cleaning deadline set for 9.30 am

Hyderabad: GHMC main roads cleaning must be completed by 9.30 am every day, Commissioner R.V. Karnan directed officials during a sanitation review meeting on Wednesday. He said authorities must ensure all major roads remain free of garbage within the deadline.

The Commissioner issued the directive while chairing a review at the GHMC head office. He said the State government’s 99-day “Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika” programme must be implemented with full seriousness. Accordingly, officials must align their work with its targets and objectives.

Karnan warned that any lapse in maintaining cleanliness on main roads would attract action. He said Deputy Commissioners and SWM DEEs would face accountability for failures. At the same time, he instructed officials to ensure no cleaning activity remains visible on major roads after 10 am.

The Commissioner stressed that sanitation remains the primary responsibility of Deputy Commissioners and SWM DEEs. He also assigned responsibility for removal of green waste to the Solid Waste Management wing. Therefore, officials must ensure systematic handling of all waste categories.

He directed teams to clear construction and demolition waste without delay. In addition, they must remove long-pending garbage and accumulated green waste. To support this effort, the GHMC will arrange additional vehicles where required.

Karnan instructed officials to respond quickly to negative media reports related to sanitation. He said prompt action would help maintain public confidence and improve service delivery.

He also emphasised timely payment of wages to sanitation workers. According to him, worker welfare remains essential for maintaining efficiency in field operations.

Sanitation Additional Commissioner Ravi Kiran attended the meeting along with Zonal Commissioners Priyanka Ala, Manda Makarand and Mukunda Reddy. Deputy Commissioners, SWM DEEs and representatives from Ramky also participated in the review.

The GHMC main roads cleaning directive aims to improve urban sanitation standards through strict timelines, accountability and coordinated execution.
