GHMC examiner caught taking bribe by ACB in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Officials of the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau caught a Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation employee while accepting a bribe in the GHMC examiner bribe case at the Secunderabad Zonal Office.

The accused, Surya Vamsi Santosh, worked as an examiner in the accounts section of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Secunderabad Zonal Office.

According to ACB officials, the officer demanded Rs 40,000 from a complainant.

He allegedly sought the money to process and forward the complainant’s retirement benefits file to the GHMC head office for sanction.

After receiving the complaint, ACB officials organised a trap to verify the GHMC examiner bribe allegation.

During the operation, the official was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 35,000 at his office.

ACB officials recovered the tainted cash from his possession immediately after the transaction.

Investigators said the accused public servant misused his official position to obtain an undue advantage.

Following the trap, ACB officials arrested the accused in connection with the GHMC examiner bribe case.

Authorities said he would be produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases at Nampally for judicial remand.

Officials withheld the identity of the complainant for security reasons.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau confirmed that further investigation in the case was continuing.

Meanwhile, the ACB urged citizens to report corruption through its toll-free helpline number 1064.
