Hyderabad: GHMC’s attempt to clear structurally risky buildings across the city is yet to pick up pace, with only a fraction of demolitions completed despite over 500 properties flagged as unsafe.
Field inspections are under way in all circles by the town planning department, which is leading the exercise as a pre-monsoon safeguard. A total of 536 buildings have been issued notices—252 from a pending list carried over from last year, and another 284 identified in recent weeks.
So far, 125 property owners have vacated after persuasion by officials. Demolitions have taken place at 34 sites. Repairs are under way at 41 locations. One structure was sealed.
The civic body said action on the remaining buildings is ongoing, with focused clearance expected in Charminar, Secunderabad, and Goshamahal circles within the next 10 days. Officials said safety protocols are being followed to avoid any casualties during the drive.
