Hyderabad: GHMC inaugurated an autism communication board at KBR Park to support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in public spaces.
Olympic medalist Saina Nehwal, Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan and GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan inaugurated the facility on World Autism Day.
The board enables children with limited verbal abilities to communicate using AAC-based visual icons. It helps them express needs, emotions and preferences in a public environment.

GHMC developed the initiative in collaboration with Avaz, Marham Resonating Resilience, CDC Talk & Learn and Koru Kidz.
Experts, including Dr Pratima Giri, Dr Nabat Lakhani and Ms Prerna, contributed to the initiative.
Saina Nehwal stressed the need to empower every child to find a place in society. She highlighted the importance of inclusive infrastructure.
Officials said the initiative promotes awareness on diverse communication needs. It also aims to create accessible public spaces across the city.
The project marks a step towards ensuring that children with communication challenges can interact confidently in public spaces.
