Woman dies in Ghatkesar railway accident near station crossing

Hyderabad: A 58-year-old woman died in a Ghatkesar railway accident after a train hit her while she was crossing near the railway station in Medchal district on Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Balamani, died on the spot after the train struck her while she attempted to cross the railway gate near Ghatkesar station. The Ghatkesar railway accident was so severe that the impact threw parts of the body some distance away from the tracks.

Railway police later identified the woman using an Aadhaar card found at the accident site.

According to officials, the deceased belonged to Peddaparvathapur village in Bommalramaram mandal of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.

Police said the Aadhaar card recovered from the scene helped them confirm the victim’s identity as Balamani.

Railway police registered a case and began an investigation into the Ghatkesar railway accident. Authorities shifted the body to a nearby government hospital for post-mortem examination.

Officials said they informed the family members about the incident.

Local commuters said authorities closed the railway gate near Ghatkesar nearly a year ago. Since then, the crossing has remained open only for pedestrians.

Because of this situation, many people continue to cross the tracks on foot, residents said.
