Gandhi Sarovar project: KTR vows fight for property owners

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Sunday opposed the Gandhi Sarovar project and pledged to fight for property owners who fear displacement in parts of Hyderabad.

He led a three-kilometre Musi Dandi March at Hyder Shah Kote in Bandlaguda Jagir along with residents from Gandhamguda, Shivaram Colony, Dream Homes and nearby localities. Hundreds of BRS supporters and residents joined the protest.

KTR interacted with families who said the Gandhi Sarovar project could affect their houses. He assured them that the party would stand by property owners and raise the issue in the Assembly session beginning March 16.

KT Rama Rao said the Gandhi Sarovar project would be discussed in the upcoming Assembly session. He reiterated that the BRS would support residents whose properties may face demolition.

During the march, residents told him they feared losing their homes. They urged him to protect their properties from what they described as a forced eviction drive.

KTR accused the Congress government of pursuing what he termed a “Bulldozer Raj” in Telangana. He alleged that several families had already faced displacement in the name of the Musi Riverfront project.

According to him, the government prioritised demolitions and land transactions over development. He claimed the administration functioned like a real estate enterprise.

The BRS leader alleged that authorities marked many houses for demolition under the guise of beautifying the Musi Riverfront. He described the initiative as a large-scale scam masked as river rejuvenation.

“Since Revanth Reddy assumed office, it has been a matter of bulldozers rather than development,” KTR said.

He further alleged that the government was destroying homes of the poor to benefit contractors and their associates. Moreover, he claimed officials were pressuring residents to vacate despite repeated appeals.

KTR said families with children and elderly members were facing coercion. He alleged that authorities used threats and inducements to weaken resistance among affected residents.
