No LPG shortage, says Centre after fuel review

Hyderabad: The Centre said there is no LPG shortage after a nationwide fuel supply review with Chief Secretaries of all States and Union Territories. The fuel supply review assessed the availability of LPG, petrol, diesel, and natural gas.

Union Petroleum Secretary Neeraj Mittal chaired the video conference and reviewed production, distribution, and logistics. Consequently, he directed officials to maintain adequate stock levels and ensure timely supply across regions.

Fuel supply review focuses on supply monitoring and rumour control

Mittal asked officials to strengthen mechanisms to curb misinformation on LPG availability. Moreover, he clarified that LPG stocks remain sufficient nationwide.

He reiterated that refill booking timelines remain unchanged. Therefore, urban consumers can book after 25 days, while rural consumers can book after 45 days.

Officials urged citizens not to believe false reports or resort to panic buying. As a result, authorities aim to maintain stable demand and avoid unnecessary pressure on supply chains.

The meeting also highlighted the expansion of gas infrastructure. Meanwhile, officials encouraged states to promote Piped Natural Gas as a cost-effective and convenient alternative.

Mittal directed Chief Secretaries to monitor supply and distribution systems closely. In addition, he asked them to activate State Control Centres for continuous tracking.

These centres will coordinate with oil marketing companies and district administrations. Consequently, they will help curb hoarding and resolve local supply issues quickly.

Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and Civil Supplies Commissioner Stephen Ravindra attended the meeting along with other senior officials.
