Hyderabad: The Telangana government extended free bus travel to disabled persons in RTC buses, issuing fresh orders under the Maha Lakshmi Scheme.
The State already provides the facility to girls, women and transgender persons as part of its six guarantees programme. Now, the government has approved 100% fare exemption for disabled men as well.
Officials confirmed that the benefit applies to Telangana State Road Transport Corporation services within State limits. Beneficiaries can travel without charge in Pallevelugu and Express buses across Telangana.
Free bus travel expanded under Maha Lakshmi Scheme
Under the existing scheme, girls, women and transgender persons from Telangana can travel anywhere within State borders in eligible RTC services without paying fare.
In addition, the government allows cost-free travel up to the Telangana border in inter-state Pallevelugu and Express buses.
With the latest orders, disabled persons will also receive the same benefit. The decision brings them under the umbrella of the Maha Lakshmi Scheme and widens access to public transport support.
The government formally implemented the exemption across the State through official orders.
