Hyderabad: Four senior CPI (Maoist) leaders surrender before Telangana police on Tuesday, marking what officials described as a major setback to the banned outfit.
Those who surrendered were Tippiri Thirupathi alias Devji, Malla Raji Reddy alias Sangram, Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar, and Nune Narsimha Reddy alias Ganganna.
Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy said the CPI (Maoist) leaders surrender had dealt a significant blow to the organisation. He stated that the last remaining apex organisational structure had effectively disbanded.
According to the DGP, the Telangana State Committee had become defunct. He said this followed the return of Secretary Damodar and State Committee member Ganganna into the mainstream.
CPI (Maoist) leaders surrender weakens State Committee
The DGP said 591 Maoist cadres of various ranks surrendered to Telangana police since the beginning of 2024. He described the continued surrenders as a sign of declining influence of the outlawed group in the State.
At present, only 11 underground CPI (Maoist) operatives from Telangana remain, he said. Of them, just two are still active in the Telangana State Committee. The remaining operatives are working in other states, including Chhattisgarh.
Police officials termed the development a decisive step in dismantling the Maoist network in Telangana.
