Flights cancelled at Shamshabad airport amid West Asia tensions

Hyderabad: Airlines cancelled several international flights operating from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad following the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel.

Carriers suspended services to major West Asia destinations. Airlines stopped flights scheduled to depart for Doha, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah and other parts of Saudi Arabia. In addition, they temporarily halted services to Kuwait, Dubai, Muscat and Madina.

Shamshabad airport sees 44 flight cancellations

Authorities scrapped around 22 outbound flights from Shamshabad airport. Likewise, airlines withdrew another 22 inbound international services.

Air India, IndiGo, Emirates and Qatar Airways took the decision in view of the prevailing situation in West Asia. Consequently, passenger movement at the airport dropped sharply.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation advised travellers to reconsider trips to Middle East countries. The regulator also directed passengers to check flight status through airline websites or airport authorities before travelling to the airport.

With multiple services suspended, passenger footfall declined significantly as travellers awaited further updates from airlines.
