Hyderabad: Panic swept through Madhuranagar on Friday evening when a fire erupted in an five floor apartment building, triggered by what residents described as a sudden explosion of multiple air conditioner compressors.
The blaze began on the second floor, where the compressors reportedly blew without warning, setting off a fast-moving fire that ripped through the flat and threatened to engulf more of the structure.
Thick smoke quickly flooded the building, leaving residents scrambling. Some shouted for help, while others bolted for stairwells or crowded onto balconies, desperate to get clear of the choking fumes.
“The entire floor was filled with smoke. We didn’t know where the fire started, only that something had exploded,” said a resident who escaped with his family.
Firefighters got to the scene in minutes, sending in two engines to stop the fire from climbing to the upper floors.
Thankfully, no one was hurt, officials said. But the cause of the blaze is still under investigation, and experts are checking the building for any structural damage.
