Hyderabad: A major fire erupted early Saturday morning at a furniture manufacturing unit located near Abu Bakar Masjid in Jhirra, Asifnagar. Thirteen workers were rescued from the building. No casualties were reported.
The multi-storey building housed a furniture workshop and godown in the cellar, ground, and first floor, while the upper floors served as residential quarters for employees.
The fire control room received a call at 4:19 a.m. and dispatched fire crews from Amberpet and Gowliguda stations within a minute. A robot fire fighter from the Assembly station was also sent. Upon arrival, responders found heavy smoke and flames emanating from the ground floor, where an electrical panel had reportedly caught fire and spread to the first floor.
Firefighters directed occupants to move to the terrace. Additional teams from Yakatpura, Langer House, and a Bronto Sky Lift ladder unit from Secretariat joined the response, along with Hyderabad SDRF personnel.
Under the supervision of V. Bhanu Prathap (ADFO High Court) and G. Chanakya (SFO Amberpet), responders evacuated those trapped on the upper floors. Personnel from Amberpet station and the SDRF assisted in the rescue.
Fire operations were overseen by T. Venkanna (DFO Hyderabad), Khaja Karimulla (DFO Ranga Reddy), and P.A. Shanmukha Rao (ADFO Salarjung Museum), with fire officers B. Sudhakar and N. Mahesh also present.
