Hyderabad: Panic swept through Hyderabad’s Old City again on Tuesday, just days after the deadly Charminar fire that claimed 17 lives. This time, it was a blaze in a godown at Bhoiguda under Chatrinaka police station limits that sent locals scrambling.
The fire erupted around noon on May 20 in a G+2 building, specifically on the second floor, which was being used as a shoe godown. The area, packed with rubber goods, quickly filled with thick black smoke. Locals alerted authorities, and two fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
Firefighters managed to contain the flames before they could spread to neighbouring structures. The quick response helped avert what could have been another major disaster.
No casualties were reported, though property loss was confirmed. The adjacent building, just metres away, could have taken a hit had the response been slower, residents said.
Officials brought the situation under control within hours and have launched an inquiry into the exact cause of the fire.
