Tension near Telangana Secretariat as farmers demand correction of land records

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed near the Telangana Secretariat on Monday after over 100 farmers from Mahbubabad district tried to march into the complex demanding correction of their patta passbooks.

The farmers, mainly from Narayanpuram village in Kesamudram mandal, said their land documents wrongly list their holdings under the ‘forest’ category.

They demanded that the entries be amended and fresh passbooks issued in their names.

As they approached the Secretariat, police stopped the group, and a heated argument followed. The farmers then staged a sit-in protest near the premises.

Police intervened and shifted the protestors to a nearby station.

The farmers said they were trying to meet ministers attending the Cabinet meeting scheduled in the Secretariat today to raise their grievances.
