Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police on Monday arrested three fake vigilance officers for allegedly extorting a gas delivery worker near MRC Common in Film Nagar by posing as officials and press reporters.
According to police, the accused identified as Mohammed Manzoor Hassan (60), Mohd Tousfeeq (46), and Mohammed Taj (29) threatened the victim with job loss. They alleged black-marketing and demanded ₹2 lakh from him.
Fearing consequences, the delivery worker handed over cash collected during his deliveries. The incident surfaced after he informed his employer, who then filed a complaint with Film Nagar Police.
Following the complaint, police examined CCTV footage and identified the suspects. They then arrested the trio and recovered ₹23,000 from them.
Fake vigilance officers extortion case probe continues
Police said a fourth accused remained absconding in the fake vigilance case. They added that teams were actively searching for him.
Officials also said efforts were underway to recover the remaining amount taken from the victim. They confirmed that further investigation into the fake vigilance officers case was in progress.
