Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police warned motorists that use of fake or altered vehicle number plates will invite criminal prosecution, heavy penalties and imprisonment.
The department stated that such violations are not minor traffic offences but serious crimes under law. Officials cautioned that enforcement teams will act against offenders without exception.
Specifically, police flagged fake number plates, tampered registration numbers, fancy or unreadable fonts and misuse of registration plates as punishable offences. In addition, they noted that manipulating vehicle identity attracts criminal cases beyond routine challans.

Officials urged vehicle owners to follow traffic rules and install only authorised and genuine number plates. They also directed motorists to maintain valid and authentic vehicle documents at all times.
Furthermore, the department appealed to citizens to cooperate in maintaining lawful road use across the city. It emphasised that strict checks will continue at key junctions and patrol points.
