Fake AI project scam promises huge income, misuses celeb photos

Hyderabad: A new scam is spreading across social media platforms, offering fake promises of high monthly income under the name of an “AI project.” Fraudsters are targeting the public with offers claiming that an investment of just ₹22,000 can earn up to ₹1.85 lakh per month.

According to the false claims, earnings of ₹79,878 begin the very next day, with money deposited directly into the investor’s bank account. Scammers even use a fabricated quote from Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, saying: “This is my personal assurance for huge income under the AI project.”

Celebrities and media names misused

To make the scam seem legitimate, the fraudsters use photos of top personalities like Narayana Murthy, Sundar Pichai, and Sudha Murthy. They falsely claim that these individuals are associated with the project. In addition, the advertisements misuse logos of well-known banks and media outlets to gain public trust.

The ads also showcase fake testimonials. Supposed beneficiaries say they got rich overnight, turning their lives around with just one small investment. These testimonials, however, are entirely false and created to lure victims.

Public urged to stay alert

Officials warn people to stay cautious and avoid falling for such unrealistic offers. They urge everyone to verify the source before investing in any scheme and to report suspicious ads or messages to the police or cybercrime teams immediately.

Authorities emphasize that no legitimate investment promises such fast or massive returns. If an offer seems too good to be true, it usually is.
