HYDERABAD: India is currently experiencing a mix of extreme weather conditions, with heatwaves, rainfall, and snowfall occurring simultaneously in different parts of the country. Chhattisgarh and Odisha are facing intense heat, while northern states like Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are witnessing rain and snowfall.
Heatwave Conditions in Odisha and Chhattisgarh
Odisha is recording severe heat, with most districts seeing temperatures around 40°C. The highest temperature in the country was recorded in Boudh, Odisha, at 42.5°C. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), such extreme heat was recorded last year in April, but this year, it has arrived nearly a month earlier.
In Chhattisgarh, cities like Raipur, Bilaspur, and Durg are experiencing heatwave-like conditions. Bilaspur was the hottest place in the state on Saturday, with a recorded temperature of 40.5°C. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for 16 districts in Chhattisgarh.
Rain and Snowfall in Northern States
Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand have witnessed rainfall and snowfall. In Himachal Pradesh, snowfall and rain are expected to continue in districts like Shimla, Kangra, Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu, Kinnaur, Chamba, and Sirmaur until March 20.
Punjab recorded 1.4 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, and a yellow alert has been issued for more rain today. Haryana has experienced heavy rainfall and hailstorms over the past two days in multiple regions.
IMD Alerts for Multiple States
The IMD has issued a red alert for a heatwave in Odisha, cautioning residents about extreme temperatures. Additionally, the department has predicted rainfall in 14 states, including Rajasthan. Furthermore, an avalanche warning has been issued in Himachal Pradesh due to heavy snowfall.
