Excise special drives intensified against drugs and NDPL liquor

Hyderabad: The Telangana Excise Department intensified enforcement drives against illegal liquor, ganja and narcotics across the state. The operations form part of the ‘Praja Palana–Pragati Pranalika’ 99-day programme.

Authorities launched the drives to curb activities that affect excise revenue. At the same time, the department aims to prevent the spread of narcotics.

Therefore officials formed special teams to conduct inspections and raids. Four Special Task Force teams from the enforcement wing joined the operations.

In addition, enforcement units and district-level task force teams also participated. Together they carried out inspections, surveillance and targeted raids.

Meanwhile officials identified several hotspots in and around Hyderabad. These areas reportedly witnessed circulation of drugs, ganja and non-duty-paid liquor.

The identified locations include Dhoolpet, Narayanaguda, Fathenagar and Sitaphalmandi. Neredmet, Serilingampally, Kukatpally and Moosapet also remain under watch.

Similarly Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar, Uppal, Nagole, Annojiguda and Moghalpura bastis appear on the surveillance list. As a result enforcement teams increased monitoring in these areas.

Officials also strengthened checks on trains. In addition they tightened surveillance at check posts to intercept illegal transport.

Excise drives target drugs and NDPL liquor network

Meanwhile the department detected large quantities of non-duty-paid liquor entering the state. The liquor reportedly arrived from regions such as Delhi, Noida, Goa and Haryana.

Therefore officials launched special drives at airports, railway stations and road check posts. The aim was to stop NDPL liquor entering Telangana.

Across the state enforcement teams registered 1,251 cases. They also seized 16,103 litres of liquor.

Meanwhile several cases surfaced in Hyderabad involving liquor brought through the airport in 2025. Inspections under Shamsabad, Saroornagar and Meerpet excise stations detected these consignments.

Consequently officials seized 3,631 litres of liquor in 337 cases. The seizures followed inspections conducted by the excise stations.

The department also intensified surveillance against ganja and narcotics. Enforcement teams seized 565 kilograms of ganja during raids conducted in 2025.

Meanwhile Special Task Force teams seized another 1,346 kilograms of ganja. These seizures occurred during separate enforcement operations.

In Khammam district authorities recorded significant seizures during January and February. Officials registered 23 cases during this period.

As a result they confiscated 185 kilograms of ganja. In addition officers seized 686 ganja plants.

Officials also recovered substances such as OG Kush, MDMA and hashish oil. Ganja chocolates were also found during the operations.
