Hyderabad: Former engineer-in-chief Muralidhar Rao was sent to Chanchalguda Central Prison after a local court remanded him to 14 days’ judicial custody in a ₹200 crore illegal assets case.
Anti-Corruption Bureau officials arrested Rao following day-long raids at his Banjara Hills residence and multiple other locations.Investigators have uncovered a vast trail of assets both movable and immovable allegedly stashed in the names of the suspect’s family members and benamis.
Among the major seizures: investments tied to shell companies, a 2 MW power project in Zaheerabad worth several hundred crores, and sprawling apartment complexes in Hyderabad and Karimnagar.
Officials suspect that Rao used proxy accounts and dummy firms to conceal ownership and route investments.
The ACB said searches began Tuesday morning and continued late into the night. Investigations are ongoing into the origin of the seized assets and their links to Rao’s tenure in public service.
