Hyderabad: An earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale jolted Mancherial and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts around midnight, triggering panic among residents.
Seismology officials placed the epicentre about 35 kilometres from Mancherial. Tremors extended up to the Telangana–Maharashtra border.
In Marthidi village of Bejjur mandal in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district, the earthquake shook the ground for nearly three seconds. The tremor knocked household items to the floor.
Earthquake triggers panic in border villages
Residents woke from deep sleep as the ground shook. Many ran out of their houses in fear.
Villagers said they had never faced such tremors earlier. CCTV cameras inside houses captured objects moving during the earthquake, and videos spread on social media.
A few months ago, tremors struck several districts in the State. Karimnagar, Mancherial and Adilabad reported shaking at that time. Officials then traced the epicentre to Rebbena in Asifabad district.
