Hyderabad: India’s first Earth Sciences University has been established in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Telangana, by upgrading the former College of Mining Engineering. Named after former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, the university will commence academic sessions in August.
Admissions are now open through the Degree Online Services Telangana (DOST) portal. Students who completed Intermediate with Physics and Chemistry are eligible. Intake will follow a merit-cum-reservation model.
The university will offer B.Sc. programs in Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, and Environmental Science each with 60 seats. Postgraduate courses will also begin this year, with 40 seats per program. PG admissions will be based on undergraduate performance.
The campus spans 312 acres and features facilities developed at a cost of ₹500 crore. The curriculum has been curated with inputs from leading academics across various universities. Annual tuition for the B.Sc. program is set at ₹19,500, with scholarships available for eligible students.
Principal Secretary for Education and University Vice-Chancellor Yogita Rana confirmed that classes will formally begin next month. College Principal Jagan Mohan Raju stated that graduates will have employment opportunities both in India and abroad, citing global demand for expertise in Earth Sciences.
