Hyderabad: A court awarded imprisonment and community service to offenders in 27 drunken driving cases booked under the Santosh Nagar Traffic Police limits.
Police produced the cases before the court after registering them over the past week. Following the review, the court imposed punishments based on the severity and recidivism of the offences.
Four offenders were sentenced to imprisonment, while nine were directed to perform community service at traffic junctions by displaying awareness placards for one day.
Drunken driving repeat offenders face stricter punishment
Further, the court sentenced three repeat offenders, caught for the second time, to three days of imprisonment. In addition, one habitual offender, booked for the third time, received 10 days of imprisonment.
Authorities said the action reflects a stricter approach towards repeat violations. Therefore, enforcement agencies have intensified checks across the city.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad Traffic Police said they are conducting drives during both day and night. They warned that strict legal action will continue against violators.
Officials urged citizens not to drive after consuming alcohol. They said road safety remains a priority for both individuals and the public at large.
