Drunk drivers are terrorists, says Hyderabad police chief

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has declared that drunk drivers are “terrorists,” demanding strict action against anyone caught driving under the influence. His remarks followed the recent Kurnool bus tragedy, which killed 20 people after an intoxicated biker triggered a fatal collision.

Sajjanar said the incident was not an accident but a preventable massacre caused by criminal negligence. CCTV footage showed the biker, identified as B. Shiva Shankar, refuelling his motorcycle at 2:24 a.m. and crashing just 15 minutes later. Investigations confirmed that he was drunk at the time of the accident.

The commissioner criticised society’s tendency to treat drunk driving as a minor mistake. Instead, he said, it must be seen as a grave crime with lasting consequences. “Drunk drivers are like human bombs. Their recklessness destroys families in seconds,” he remarked.

Hyderabad police to enforce zero tolerance on drunk driving

Sajjanar announced that Hyderabad Police would strictly enforce a zero-tolerance policy against drunk driving. Anyone caught will face the full force of the law without leniency or exception.

He also urged the public to report such offenders through Dial 100 or at local police stations. Ignoring these threats, he warned, could endanger more lives. Therefore, citizens must remain alert and intervene whenever they witness such behaviour.

Finally, Sajjanar highlighted the severe psychological trauma faced by victims’ families. He said society must collectively recognise drunk driving as a punishable crime, not as an unavoidable mishap.
