Police conduct drug tests on history sheeters in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Hyderabad police conducted a drug tests Hyderabad drive targeting history sheeters, rowdy elements, and repeat drug offenders to strengthen enforcement and awareness.

The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing organised the drive on Friday following instructions from Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar. Officials coordinated with local police teams to carry out the operation across the city.

During the drive, teams conducted medical tests on individuals with prior involvement in NDPS cases and suspected drug use. At the same time, police aimed to create awareness about legal consequences and health risks.

Authorities carried out the programme under the supervision of Vaibhav Raghunath Gaikwad. Doctors conducted tests at Osmania General Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, and the Government Hospital for Mental Care at Erragadda.

Police intensify drug tests Hyderabad drive on offenders

At Gandhi Hospital, officials tested 70 persons. Of them, 44 tested positive while 26 tested negative. Similarly, at Osmania General Hospital, teams tested 80 persons, with 59 returning positive and 21 negative.

At the Government Hospital for Mental Care in Erragadda, officials tested 89 persons. Among them, 86 tested positive and three tested negative. Overall, authorities tested 239 individuals, and 189 tested positive.

Following the tests, psychiatrists counselled individuals on the harmful effects of drug abuse. They also explained the need for treatment and rehabilitation.

Police said they would register legal cases against those who tested positive, as per the law. They added that such drives would continue to monitor offenders and curb drug abuse.
