Hyderabad: A truck driver died on the spot and the cleaner was left seriously injured after a collision between a lorry and a tanker in Mancherial district on Thursday morning.
The crash occurred near Itikyala when a soap-loaded truck heading from Luxettipet to Raichur rammed into an oncoming tanker. The front sections of both vehicles were mangled. The truck driver was crushed to death in the cabin. The cleaner and the tanker driver sustained major injuries.
Despite the visible distress of the victims, bystanders ignored the injured and began looting soap cartons from the damaged vehicle. By the time police reached the scene, more than half the truck’s load had been taken.
The cleaner was later shifted to hospital. The driver’s body was sent to Mancherial Government Hospital for postmortem. A case has been registered.
Police said investigation is underway. The response of onlookers, who left the injured unattended and focused on looting the goods, drew sharp criticism.
