Farmers panic as snapped power lines spark massive fire in Doddipalli village

HYDERABAD: A powerful storm on Thursday night triggered a dangerous fire in Doddipalli village, located in the jurisdiction of a local mandal, when 11kV power lines snapped and fell onto low-tension (LT) lines. The incident caused flames to erupt along the rural pathways leading to agricultural fields, sending shockwaves through the farming community.

The live wires fell during the gale-force winds, igniting a fire that rapidly spread through the area. Several borewell motors and starters installed on farmland were completely gutted, with loud explosions accompanying the blaze as the equipment caught fire. Terrified farmers, witnessing the flames and explosions, feared for their lives as they watched their equipment turn to ash.

The affected farmers, many of whom rely solely on borewells for irrigation, were left devastated by the loss. Several motors were reduced to charred remains, and the financial toll has further compounded the anxiety already burdening rural cultivators.

Officials from the electricity department responded promptly, initiating emergency repair work to restore power supply in the affected area. However, farmers have urged authorities not only to restore the lines swiftly but also to assess the damage and compensate them for their losses.

Speaking to local media, residents expressed frustration and helplessness, stressing that such accidents pose serious risks to both life and livelihood, and that safety checks must be enforced more rigorously.
