Hyderabad: The Srivari Dharma Rathams free bus service in Tirumala recorded a surge in passenger convenience after Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams installed digital display boards at major bus stops.
TTD introduced real-time bus arrival information at 20 locations, enabling pilgrims to plan travel within Tirumala more efficiently. The initiative was taken by TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary. Officials said the system reduced waiting time significantly and improved passenger flow.
At present, 12 electric buses operate under the Srivari Dharma Rathams service. On average, authorities conduct nearly 300 trips daily, with each trip covering about 6.5 kilometres. As a result, private taxi usage has declined because pilgrims can now track bus timings accurately.
Srivari Dharma Rathams add night trips and eco focus
The digital display boards were donated by Hyderabad-based B.S. Technotronics Private Limited, with technical support from Olectra Greentech Limited. Officials described the initiative as a first-of-its-kind technological upgrade among major spiritual destinations in the country.
Apart from commuter convenience, the electric buses support fuel savings and pollution control. Therefore, the service aligns with TTD’s eco-friendly transport goals. Authorities are planning to introduce 20 additional night trips soon to further strengthen the network.
