Hyderabad: Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar on Wednesday heard Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari in the defection case and deferred the decision.
Several disqualification petitions relate to BRS MLAs. So far, the Speaker has cleared eight legislators of defection charges.
As part of the pending matters, Kadiyam Srihari appeared before the Speaker and participated in the hearing.
During the proceedings, BRS MLA Vivekanand Goud, who filed the petition, attended the hearing and presented his arguments. He also submitted documentary evidence.
After hearing both sides, the Speaker fixed February 19 for the next hearing. He scheduled it after the completion of municipal elections and declaration of results.
Defection case: Speaker to decide after remaining hearings
Earlier this week, the Speaker directed Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender to appear for a fresh hearing on February 18.
According to sources, the Speaker will take a final decision only after completing hearings in both cases.
The pending outcome has triggered political interest across parties.
Following the hearing, Vivekanand Goud made sharp remarks against Kadiyam Srihari. He said it was contradictory to claim BRS membership while working for the Congress.
Referring to Delhi events, he alleged that Kadiyam Srihari joined the Congress in the presence of Rahul Gandhi. He also accused him of misleading the public.
