DCA busts illegal medical device unit in Sangareddy, seizes Rs.1.7 lakh stock

Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, busted an illegal medical device unit operating without licence in Sangareddy district and seized stocks worth Rs.1.70 lakh, officials said on Tuesday.

Acting on credible information, DCA officials conducted a raid on December 23 at Mediblue Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. located at Sultanpur in Sangareddy district. During the inspection, officials detected unauthorised manufacturing of medical devices.

According to the DCA, the unit was producing Risk Class-B medical devices without obtaining the mandatory Form MD-5 licence. The seized items included dialysis kits (Sterile EO), sterile surgical gowns and sterile eye drapes.

Officials said manufacturing medical devices without proper authorisation violated provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and the Medical Devices Rules, 2017. They warned that such illegal practices posed serious risks to public health.

Illegal medical device unit faces legal action

The DCA said further investigation was underway to identify those responsible for the unauthorised activity. Officials added that they would initiate legal action as per law.

DCA officials also noted that unlicensed manufacturing of medical devices is a punishable offence, carrying imprisonment of up to five years, apart from monetary penalties.
