Veteran journalist Dasu K Murthy passes away in New Jersey at 99

Hyderabad: Veteran journalist Dasu Krishna Murthy passed away in New Jersey on Wednesday morning following a brief illness. He was 99 years old and just six months short of turning 100. Indeed, Dasu K Murthy will be remembered for his extraordinary career.

Murthy was among the first batch of journalism students at Osmania University in 1954–55. He went on to work with leading national dailies including The Indian Express, Times of India, and Patriot. He also served as Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Delhi, and was on the guest faculty of Osmania University, Andhra Pradesh Open University, and the University of Hyderabad. The legacy of Dasu K Murthy in Indian journalism is highly regarded.

In recognition of his lifelong contributions to journalism, the Osmania University alumni association honoured him with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024. The professional life of Dasu K Murthy was marked by dedication and excellence.

Murthy was the elder brother of Dasu Kesavarao, retired Deputy Editor of The Hindu in Hyderabad. He moved to the United States in 2001 to live with his daughter and her family.

Several journalist organisations and senior media professionals mourned his demise and extended their condolences to the bereaved family. Above all, Dasu K Murthy inspired countless journalists across generations.
