Cyberabad Police hold India’s first Defreeze Accounts Mela

Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police organised India’s first-of-its-kind Defreeze Accounts Mela, handing over No-Objection Certificates to bank account holders whose accounts had been frozen during cyber fraud investigations.

The Cyberabad Cyber Crimes Police conducted the special Defreeze Accounts Mela at the Commissionerate auditorium on February 14, 2026. During the event, officials issued NOCs to individuals found unconnected to criminal activity after verification.

Cyber Crimes DCP T. Sai Manohar explained that investigators freeze accounts suspected of links to fraudulent transactions once victims report incidents through the 1930 helpline or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Although such action prevents diversion of funds, verification later revealed that some frozen accounts belonged to innocent individuals.

Defreeze Accounts Mela clears 110 verified accounts

Police carried out a focused verification drive before organising the Defreeze Accounts Mela. Officers examined nearly 110 accounts frozen through the NCRP system. Subsequently, they scrutinised identities, transaction histories and supporting documents of account holders.

After detailed examination, officials cleared those found unrelated to offences and defroze their accounts through due legal procedure. Consequently, the initiative provided timely relief to innocent citizens while enabling investigators to focus on organised cyber offenders.

The DCP advised the public to dial 1930 or lodge complaints on cybercrime.gov.in in case of fraud. Moreover, he cautioned citizens against sharing OTPs, passwords or banking details with unknown persons.

ACP A. Ravinder Reddy and Inspectors Raghavender, Shivaprasad, Ramireddy, Durga Ramalinga Prasad, Vijay Kumar, Madhu and other personnel attended the Mela.
