HYDERABAD: In a bid to curb road accidents and traffic congestion, the Cyberabad Traffic Police have stepped up enforcement against wrong-route driving across Hyderabad. Despite ongoing awareness campaigns and fines, many motorists continue to drive on the wrong side of the road to avoid U-turns or waiting at signals, resulting in traffic jams and serious accidents.
Within the Hyderabad City Commissionerate limits, several fatal accidents have been attributed to such reckless behaviour. In response, authorities have previously installed CCTV cameras to monitor and deter these violations. However, the problem has persisted.
Now, the Cyberabad Traffic Police have taken a more proactive approach. In a recent tweet, they called on citizens to become active participants in traffic enforcement by reporting wrong-route violations. The department shared a dedicated WhatsApp number — 9490617346 — and urged people to send photos or videos of violators along with the location, date, and time.
The initiative has received positive feedback from netizens, many of whom appreciated the effort to involve the public in promoting road safety. Social media users also warned habitual violators that heavy fines are inevitable for those caught driving dangerously.
Authorities hope that this citizen-driven model, combined with continued surveillance and strict penalties, will help bring down the number of wrong-route incidents and improve traffic discipline in the city.
