HYDERABAD: In a weekend special operation, the Cyberabad Traffic Police booked a total of 247 individuals for drunk driving, reinforcing its ongoing crackdown on road safety violations.

Among the vehicles involved, 189 were two-wheelers, 13 were three-wheelers, and 44 were four-wheelers, highlighting the widespread nature of the offence across all types of motorists.

According to the police, 18 individuals were found with blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) between 200 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while five offenders registered BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 500 mg/100 ml, far exceeding permissible limits.

Authorities confirmed that all offenders will be produced before the Honourable Court, as per standard legal procedure.

In a stern warning to the public, the Cyberabad Traffic Police reiterated that those who drive under the influence and cause fatal accidents will be arrested and charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. This section deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, carrying a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine.

The department urged citizens to avoid driving under the influence and reminded them that such negligence could lead to serious legal consequences, including incarceration.
