Cyberabad drunk driving cases: 281 booked in weekend drive

Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 281 motorists during a weekend special drive against drunk driving and said all offenders would be produced before the court.

The enforcement covered key junctions across Cyberabad limits. Officers targeted motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol.

Out of the total cases, 224 involved two-wheelers. In addition, police booked eight three-wheelers, 42 four-wheelers and seven heavy vehicles.

Based on Blood Alcohol Concentration levels, 246 offenders recorded readings between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Meanwhile, 19 offenders showed BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml.

Another 16 offenders registered BAC levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml. Officials confirmed that all accused would face prosecution in court.

Cyberabad drunk driving cases show high BAC levels

Cyberabad Traffic Police reiterated that drunk driving remains a serious offence. Authorities warned that motorists who drive in an inebriated condition and cause fatal accidents will face stringent charges.

In such cases, police will invoke Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The offence carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine.

Officials stressed that strict enforcement would continue in the coming weeks. They urged citizens to avoid alcohol consumption before driving.

Cyberabad drunk driving cases disposed in courts

Police also released data on court disposals related to Cyberabad drunk driving cases. Between February 23 and 28, courts disposed of 218 cases.

Among them, 13 offenders received both a fine and jail sentence. Five offenders were fined and assigned social service.

The remaining 200 offenders paid fines as ordered by the court. Traffic police said sustained enforcement and court action aim to deter repeat violations and improve road safety.
