Cyberabad drunk drive crackdown nets 138 offenders over weekend

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 138 offenders during a Cyberabad drunk drive crackdown conducted over the weekend.

Officials said 121 cases involved two-wheelers, while five involved three-wheelers. In addition, 11 four-wheelers and one heavy vehicle were also caught during the enforcement drive.

Police analysed the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels of the offenders. They found that 116 individuals recorded levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Meanwhile, 15 offenders had BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml. Seven offenders recorded levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.

All offenders will be produced before the court. Authorities stated that legal action would proceed as per existing laws.

Cyberabad drunk driving crackdown highlights strict penalties

Police reiterated that drunk driving remains a serious offence. They warned that if an intoxicated driver causes a fatal accident, strict charges will follow under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Under Section 105 of the law, offenders can face charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The punishment may extend up to 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine.

Officials also shared enforcement data from the previous week. Between March 23 and March 28, courts disposed of 403 drunk driving cases. All 403 offenders were fined during this period.

The Cyberabad Traffic Police said such drives will continue to ensure road safety and deter violations across the city.
