Hyderabad: Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 196 motorists during a Cyberabad drunk drive check conducted over the weekend, officials said.
The special enforcement drive targeted motorists driving under the influence of alcohol across the Cyberabad Commissionerate. Police classified the offenders based on vehicle type and Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels.
Out of the total cases, 140 involved two-wheelers, 13 involved three-wheelers and 41 involved four-wheelers. In addition, 2 cases involved heavy vehicles. All the offenders will be produced before the Hon’ble Court.
Police said 157 offenders recorded BAC levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Meanwhile, 26 offenders had BAC levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml. Another 13 offenders recorded BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml during the Cyberabad drunk driving check.
Court disposals and warnings after Cyberabad drunk driving check
Cyberabad Police reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence. Officials warned that if an inebriated driver causes a fatal accident, police will book the person under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which relates to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The section carries a maximum punishment of 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine.
Police also released data on court disposals for the period from 09.02.2026 to 14.02.2026. During the week, 212 drunk and drive cases were disposed of by the courts. Of these, 6 persons received fine and social service, while 206 persons received fine only. No offender was awarded a fine and jail during the period.
Officials said such enforcement drives will continue to enhance road safety and deter repeat violations.
