Cyber fraudsters create fake Facebook account of Hyderabad police chief

fake Facebook account

Hyderabad: No one was safe as cyber fraudsters created a fake Facebook account in the name of Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar. The Commissioner revealed the matter on social media platforms, where he stated that the impersonator sent messages that claimed he needed urgent help. Moreover, the fraudster convinced one of his friends to transfer ₹20,000.

Action initiated against fake Facebook account network

Sajjanar explained that the fake profile contacted his friends through misleading messages. Consequently, one of them believed the claim and sent money to the criminal’s account. He emphasised that his official Facebook page remained the only authentic account under his name. Additionally, he urged people to ignore every other profile.

The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Team, supported by Meta, started action to remove the fake accounts. As the investigation moved forward, officers also traced the path of the impersonator’s activity to prevent further attempts. Furthermore, the Commissioner reminded citizens that sudden financial requests demanded strict verification.

He advised users to decline unknown friend requests and to ignore messages that suggested they came from him or any public official. Instead, he recommended direct phone calls for confirmation before reacting. Because quick reporting helps police respond faster, he asked the public to alert authorities without delay.

Sajjanar also urged citizens to block and report suspicious messages, links, or video calls. Victims were told to contact the 1930 Helpline or use the national cybercrime portal. Above all, he said alertness remained the strongest defence against online fraud.

⚠️ Important Alert!

Cyber fraudsters have created fake Facebook accounts using my name and are sending messages to my friends saying, “I’m in trouble, please send money.”

Unfortunately, one of my friends was deceived and transferred ₹20,000 to a fraudster’s account.
