CPI fund drive launched to support people’s movements in Telangana

Hyderabad: The CPI fund drive was launched in Telangana with party leaders urging citizens to donate generously to strengthen ongoing people’s movements, CPI state secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a fundraising meeting in Himayat Nagar, he said the party continued to lead struggles against “anti-people policies.” He added that the CPI was working towards building a socialist society free from exploitation.

Rao said the CPI fund drive aimed to support movements addressing public issues through its affiliated organisations. He noted that many people wished to join such struggles but could not participate actively due to professional or personal commitments.

“While many people today harbor a strong desire to participate in movements against the anti-people policies adopted by the ruling classes, they may be unable to allocate the necessary time,” he said, urging financial contributions instead.

CPI fund drive targets wider public participation

The party launched a door-to-door campaign as part of the CPI fund drive from April 1 to April 10. Leaders said the initiative sought to mobilise public support across Telangana.

They also highlighted the party’s historical role in major movements. These included participation in the freedom struggle and campaigns for land reforms and labour rights.

CPI leaders said continued public backing remained essential for sustaining such movements. They added that the CPI fund drive would help strengthen ongoing struggles for social and economic justice.

CPI fund drive records strong initial response

CPI state assistant secretary E.T. Narasimha said the CPI fund drive received a strong response on the first day. He said the party collected ₹71,252 in a single day.

He noted that the CPI had played a key role in several historic struggles. These included the Telangana Armed Struggle and movements linked to major welfare laws.

“From the nation’s freedom struggle to the monumental Telangana Armed Struggle, it united the masses and broke the stranglehold of the ruling classes,” he said.

He added that the party had contributed to reforms such as the Land Reforms Act, ESI, PF, the Right to Information Act, and the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

Several CPI leaders and members attended the meeting. These included state and district-level representatives, along with members of affiliated organisations.
