Hyderabad: CPI State Secretary and MLA Koonanneni Sambasiva Rao demanded immediate resumption of the sheep distribution scheme and sought unfreezing of bank accounts of beneficiaries in Telangana.
He, along with party MLC Nellikanti Satyam, submitted a representation to State Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Vakiti Srihari in Hyderabad. Later, speaking to reporters, Rao said the government had introduced the sheep distribution scheme with a 75 percent subsidy to promote economic development among Yadava and Kuruma (Golla) communities.
According to him, the objective of the sheep distribution scheme was to strengthen traditional occupations and ensure social upliftment in rural areas. He noted that Munugodu Assembly constituency in Nalgonda district was selected as a pilot project.
Sheep distribution scheme accounts frozen during by-election
Rao said each beneficiary under the scheme was entitled to a unit of 20 sheep and one ram, with 75 percent subsidy support. Beneficiaries deposited ₹45,000 per unit in banks as part of their contribution. However, he alleged that during the Munugodu by-election, authorities froze the bank accounts of beneficiaries.
He expressed concern that the accounts remain frozen, causing hardship to families. Due to the freeze, transactions have stopped and beneficiaries cannot access income earned from agricultural activities and cotton sales.
Rao urged the State Government to immediately unfreeze the accounts and expedite implementation of the scheme without further delay. He also sought clarity on measures being taken to ensure smooth execution. Community leaders including Ailaiah Yadav, Jagan Yadav and others were present.
