Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar warned citizens against rising Digital Arrest cyber frauds, urging them not to fall prey to fake police video calls.
Sharing a video message on his ‘X’ handle on Saturday, Sajjanar cautioned the public to remain alert. He said cyber criminals were staging fake police station setups and wearing uniforms during video calls to intimidate victims. Consequently, many unsuspecting citizens were transferring money out of fear.
The Commissioner clarified that police never conduct interrogations through WhatsApp or Skype video calls. Moreover, officers do not demand money in the name of investigation. He emphasised that Indian law does not recognise any term called Digital Arrest and declared that such claims carry no legal validity.
Digital Arrest fraud prompts public advisory
Sajjanar urged citizens to participate in the ‘Jagrut Hyderabad – Surakshit Hyderabad’ awareness initiative. Furthermore, he advised people not to panic if they receive threatening calls.
Instead, he asked victims to immediately report such incidents to the Cyber Crime Police. In addition, he encouraged citizens to share this information with family and friends to spread awareness.
Police also advised victims of cyber fraud to dial the 1930 helpline without delay. Authorities said prompt reporting can help prevent further financial loss linked to Digital Arrest scams.
This video clearly explains how cybercriminals are committing frauds in the name of “Digital Arrest.” It shows exactly how scammers pose as fake police officers and use video calls to scare innocent people.
