Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar urged people to respect and care for elderly parents after reacting to a news report about an abandoned mother.
Posting on the social media platform X, Sajjanar said the incident shows the disturbing decline in human relationships.
According to him, the sons divided six acres of land and a house among themselves. However, they allegedly abandoned their mother.
Sajjanar warns against neglect of elderly parents
The Commissioner said obsession with wealth and property weakens family bonds.
He said some people show more love for property documents than for their parents.
He reminded citizens that caring for parents in old age is both a moral duty and a legal responsibility.
Neglecting or harassing parents attracts punishment under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act.
He also said wealth and property may come and go.
However, neglecting parents can leave lifelong regret.
The Commissioner urged people to respect elderly parents and support them in their final years.
